The Gili Islands are becoming a very popular wedding destination in Indonesia. They offer the perfect romantic setting as they are secluded, naturalistic and boast some of the worlds most beautiful crystal clear waters and sunsets. Horse drawn carriages (locally known as Cidomos) roam around the Islands and are an alternative to cars/motorbikes.

The Weather in the Gili Islands  is hot all year long and rarely rains, even in the rainy season (Nov-March).

Gili may not be the chosen destination for your wedding but there are so many reasons that it should be your first choice for the bachelor/bachelorette party! The white sand beaches, the endless parties and a huge range of events and activities to take part in on any day of the week. The Gili Islands are the perfect spot to spend your final days of freedom.

Bachelor and Bachelorette parties (also known as Stag/Hen doo’s in the United Kingdom, Bucks/Hen in Australia) are commonly celebrated shortly before the wedding itself and are famous for being the final goodbye to single life. They are in actual fact simply parties thrown in honour of the bride/groom to be. They are normally arranged by the bridesmaids and groomsmen and are well-known to be notoriously wild. This party is possibly the most exciting for the closest members of the wedding party apart from the wedding itself (of course).

In order to throw the ultimate Bachelor / Bachelorette Party in the Gilis there are a few important factors to consider:

 Transport to the islands

The easiest way to get to the Gili Islands is directly by fast boat from Bali. It’ll take you roughly 2 hours and is the most common mode of transport, however, there are other alternatives to get there. Click here for more information

The best time to come

The Bachelor/Bachelorette is traditionally about a week before the wedding although nowadays this is much more flexible and can be arranged to take place any time before the big day. The Gili Islands are renowned for their hot weather year round however, like everywhere else in the world, there are seasons here and so it’s always wise to take the current season into consideration. Click here to find out more about the best time to visit the islands.

The perfect Island

There are 3 Gili Islands to choose from; each Island is different from the next and each offers a unique style. If it’s partying that you want for your bachelor/bachelorette then without a doubt, Gili Trawangan is the top choice for you! Click here to find out which Island is most suited to you.

The Guest List

Traditionally this party should consist of the Bride/Grooms nearest and dearest friends and family. However, if you’re planning on partaking in outrageous shenanigans then it may not be a good idea to invite your future in laws. Typically, the Bachelor party is men only and the Bachelorette is females only; although it doesn’t always have to be the case.

Who sticks to traditions now anyway!

Now this is extremely important! What type of Bachelor/Bachelorette are you planning? There are numerous styles of accommodation throughout the Gilis and here at The Gili Guide, we think that you should go hard or go home! Private villas are everywhere on the Islands now and they are much cheaper than you may think! Keep the group together and don’t stop the party going! Click here for more information regarding accommodation in the Gilis.

You are bound to spend more than what you budget for on a bachelor/bachelorette party but who cares! Friendship has no limits and who knows when the bride/groom will get themselves in this much of a state again? Spoil yourself and your friends and don’t think too much about money. Then again, money is an important part of your planning. Each Gili has numerous money changers and ATM’s but for all the information about money on the Gilis click here.

Although the Gilis are small there is actually a huge number of activities to do here. This is the most enjoyable part of the planning and for the bachelor/bachelorette trip itself. We have put together a list of the Ultimate Activities for you to do in Gili on your bachelor/ bachelorette party:

You don’t need to be a celebrity to live the high life these days. Charter a yacht with your friends and have one of the most epic experiences in the Gilis. This experience is extremely well priced and is an epic way to spend the day. Can you think of a better way to celebrate your bachelor/bachelorette in style than onboard your own private yacht on a summer’s day with friends?

Day drinking is always a good idea when you have a reason to celebrate and you are far from limited when it comes to options to choose from in the Gilis.Pool Parties
So pool parties have always been cool. Pool parties have been taking off in Gili Trawangan this year, with Gili Castle and Gili Beach Bum Hotel  having weekly day sessions. You can listen to awesome music played by some of Gili T’s best DJ’s whilst partying into the evening by the pool with awesome people.Every Friday @Gili BeachBumHotel 3pm – 6pm
    Every Sunday @GiliCastle 3pm – 6pm
Beers on the beach, sunset cocktails, boat parties and live bands. The night life on this little slice of heaven is definitely part of its appeal. Away from the clubs of Kuta, Gili is a breath of fresh air with open bars, a happy crowd and enough variety to suit whatever you are in the mood for.The bars take it in turns to host their own big party night on the Gili Islands. The parties start around 9pm and the music doesn’t stop until 3am. Thursday is the only day of the week with no official party.

Another way to hype up your hens and stags is to play drinking games. It’s a fun way to get the drinks flowing and a great source of entertainment. There is a huge number of drinking games that you can play but here’s a couple of suggestions to get you started:

    Beer Pong
Everyone’s favourite team drinking game! You can find this game in a lot of the bars on the main strip of Gili Trawangan and in the hostels but let’s be honest, all you need is a few cups, a ping pong ball and some enthusiastic players…and you can play anywhere. If you haven’t played this game yet, get involved!SHOTS, SHOTS, SHOTS
A vodka shot + a sachet of yellow powder (Joss) = This is a Gili favourite! The vodka joss is sometimes used as an initiation process for Gili newcomers. It’s fizzy and it’s fun. You cannot leave The Gilis without giving this one a go!

    Jiggy boat party
It’s the Gili Island’s biggest boat party. Twice a week every week, the Jiggy Boat Party sets out to cruise around the 3 Gili Islands. With awesome DJ’s and a bar fully stocked up with alcohol you shouldn’t miss out on this Gili experience. Get involved in party games, meet some great people and watch the sunset while having the time of your life.
Of course you want to look good for the upcoming wedding day; how else will you find your true love at the wedding otherwise? The beaches on the Gilis are gorgeous and the sun is hot. Make the most of it while you’re here and spend some time in the sun, getting a fab sun tan! You’ll look great in all of the photos and it will save you from getting a last minute fake tan days before the big day.
  • Keeping Fit
This one is optional, but to a lot of people keeping fit on the build up to the wedding day is of utmost importance. There are numerous ways to keep fit on the Gilis including gyms on both Gili Trawangan and Gili Air, you don’t need memberships for these gyms as you are able to pay a day fee. Check out GiliFit on facebook for all things fitness with a side of protein and food for fuel (they have their very own café, pool and accommodation options!)
  • SPA
It’s not all about the drinking carnage! The spas on the Islands are amazing and they will help you heal and rejuvenate between parties. Some of the Spas on the Islands even offer specialised hangover treatments so whether you’re male or female, take time out from the partying and treat yourself!
  • Shopping
If you’re dressing up on the bachelor/bachelorette party then you should probably prepare your outfits before you get here as there isn’t much choice for fancy dress; however, there is a wide selection of boutique shops on the islands and you can stock up on fun additions to your outfits such as fake tattoos, head dresses etc. Alternatively, Gili is generally a great place to shop for holiday items and swimwear and for the most part, it’s cheaper than it is back home!
  • Eating
Last but not least, EAT! Forget about “eating is cheating” and all that other tacky drinking banter. Gili is filled with quality places to dine out. You can find pretty much any style of food that you like and visitors always speak highly of the food on the Gilis. Make sure you try some local cuisine during your stay and eat to your hearts content; you are on holiday after all!
